Goat Box Office: Sony Animation Nears $150M Worldwide and Closes In on Break-Even Target
Sony’s animated feature Goat is holding its ground at the box office through its fourth week of release. The film is approaching two significant milestones simultaneously, the $90 million mark domestically and the $150 million mark worldwide, while slowly edging toward the break-even point that would make it a commercial success.
Domestic Performance After Four Weeks
Goat collected $534,000 on its fourth Thursday at the North American box office, a drop of 13.1 percent compared to the same day the previous week. That kind of hold in the fourth week of release is respectable for an animated title facing stiff competition.
The domestic cumulative total has now reached $85.8 million. The film is approximately $5 million away from crossing the $90 million milestone at the North American box office, a mark it appears likely to reach in the coming days if the current pace holds.
Worldwide Total Approaching $150 Million
International markets have contributed $62.5 million to the global total, according to Box Office Mojo data. Combined with the $85.8 million domestic figure, Goat’s worldwide collection stands at $148.3 million.
That puts the film less than $3 million away from crossing the $150 million mark globally. It also makes Goat the sixth highest-grossing film worldwide in 2026 at this point in the year.
- Domestic: $85.8 million
- International: $62.5 million
- Worldwide: $148.3 million
How Far Is Goat From Breaking Even?
Goat was produced on an estimated budget of between $80 million and $90 million, according to multiple media reports. Applying the standard 2.5x rule used to calculate theatrical break-even, the film needs to earn somewhere between $200 million and $225 million worldwide before it can be considered commercially profitable.
With $148.3 million in the bank globally, Goat is currently sitting at roughly 40 to 45 percent of the way toward that break-even target. The gap that remains is somewhere between $50 million and $77 million, depending on where the actual budget lands within the reported range.
Four weeks in, reaching that number is still very much achievable but will require continued strong holds in both domestic and international markets over the coming weeks.
What Is Goat About?
Directed by Tyree Dillihay, Goat is an animated sports comedy set in a world entirely populated by anthropomorphic animals. The story centres on Will, a young goat voiced by Caleb McLaughlin, who dreams of becoming a professional roarball player despite competing in a sport built for larger, faster, and physically stronger animals.
The film follows his underdog journey as he tries to prove that determination and mental strength can matter just as much as raw physical ability. It is a familiar kind of story told through a fresh animated lens, which has clearly resonated with family audiences willing to show up for it in its fourth week.
The competition has been tough, with other releases drawing significant attention at the box office, but Goat has managed to hold its own without collapsing quickly, which is a positive sign for its long-term earning potential.
